And if you’re living a healthy lifestyle, it can be hard to find options that work for you. Thankfully, we’re learning some recipes for side dishes that everyone at Cookout will get for seconds. Alice Smith joins us live now. She is a registered dietitian with Alice in Winston-Salem. It’s always nice to have you in our Wednesday welfare segment. How are you? Alice: Good morning. I am great Thank you very much. I like this topic Very relevant. Fresh vegetables are in season. If you are trying to eat healthy, you can add healthy food even when you are grilling or cooking at home. Audrey: This is the reputation of the cookout or barbecue that you will load carbs. You’ll find unhealthy chips and potato salads with a bunch of cream, you know, whatever. Alice: Absolutely. It shouldn’t be like that. Audrey: Not at all. That’s why we put you on our show. Are there any great staples to help make the cookout and side dishes healthier? Alice: Absolutely. You always want to have healthy dishes with you or keep healthy dishes available at home, whether it’s vegetables, raw vegetables, dips like hummus, or even eating veggies. Always have a healthy dish. Or like the dish I have. More nutritious. Broccoli salad is one of my favorites. There really is no mayonnaise in it. Only apple cider, vinegar, honey, and all oil dressings. You can add nuts, acids, raisins. Audrey: So doesn’t it taste dry? Apple cider, vinegar, and olive oil. Alice: And Honey, put it on, and you can let it sit in the fridge for hours. It’s delicious. It’s light and refreshing so you don’t have the heavy mayonnaise field you’re talking about – feel like you were talking about it. Audrey: How do you feel about leaving Cookout? Watermelon is in season. Alice: More delicious in season, and this is my favorite food. Watermelon salad is a great spin on watermelon. You can take watermelon to the cookout. Some additions make it a delicious side dish. Here I have just added watermelon. You can add cucumber sunflower seeds, mint, olive oil, lime juice, and you can top it with feta cheese – feta cheese. Audrey: Whoever created the combination of cheese and watermelon is wonderful. Alice: I know right. They knew what they were doing. You can add cucumber and onion. It is refreshing and refreshing and hydrating. Audrey: I remember my hydration segment. You have two more side dishes for us. Alice: A bean dip is going for an appetizer or side dish that is high in fiber, protein, and nutrients. These will be your black beans, black-eyed peas, corn, onions, peppers, and little red peppers, and will have all the oil dressing – olive oil dressing. If you want to be extremely nutritious, you can use a slice of pepper to dip your bean. Audrey: Great. And this morning our last. Alice: Tomato layer without mozzarella cheese or cheese and topping with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and then basil. This is a great refreshing side dish that will always be in your cookout or fridge. Tomatoes are delicious when they are in season. AUDREY: Squirrels with small grape tomatoes and basil and drizzle for July at Cookout for July 4 last year. It was a great victory. Alice: That’s perfect. Everyone loves it. You can make cherry tomatoes. You can throw it in a bowl. You can cut tomatoes or on skewers. Audrey: All of these options were great.
