Chocolate mug cake recipe

In my time making mug cakes, I experimented with Food Network, New York Times, All Recipes and Tasty recipes to unveil the easiest way to make delicious chocolate mug cakes – with little to no preparation. Requires less time and skill, and with ingredients. Chance in your hands.

Many of the recipes look very similar to the ones below, with the main ingredients being flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, milk, oil and an egg. However, some recipes require less common ingredients that may not be in your pantry, such as chocolate hazelnut spread. Others have even demanded butter (instead of vegetable oil), which requires a separate cup to melt and some skill to avoid when your eggs are hot. I tried to keep it simple by sticking to the basics of the pantry and the oil, which is easy to add and helps keep this quick baking cake moist.

For a basic recipe for a chocolate mug cake, you will need:

  • 2 tablespoons whole purpose flour
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons sugar (depending on how sweet you want your cake to be)
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • چم teaspoon baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • A few drops of vanilla juice.
  • Chocolate chips for flavor (optional, but I recommend if you have one)

1. Add flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt to a standard size (12-ounce) microwave safe mug. Remember that if you are using a small cup, your cake may rise and spread over the edge. Mix well with a fork until the ingredients are well combined.

2. In the same bowl, add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla and an egg. Stir all the ingredients with a fork until the mixture is uniform and free of lumps. Stir in the chocolate chips, if desired.

3. Open your mug cake in the microwave for 90 seconds. Let the cake cool for a few minutes before eating – trust me, it gets hot!

How to bake a microwave cake?

Microwave dates back to 1955, when appliances were first introduced for home kitchens, but the chain of mug cakes is less clear. One of the first references to a microwaveable dessert baked in a cup of coffee appeared in a 2009 YouTube video entitled “The World’s Most Dangerous Cake”. The woman in the video tries a recipe from her neighbor with suspicion, and concludes that it is “dangerous” because you can make a moist cake in less than 5 minutes at any time of the day.

Microwaves use extremely high electromagnetic waves to cook food by shaking the water in the food. This means that cakes (and other dishes) can be baked much faster than ovens, which use gas or electricity to heat the entire inside of the oven for cooking. However, a plus for ovens is that they can also caramelize and crisp the food, creating a nice crust on the baked goods. For baking cakes, this means that your dessert will be different in color and texture when baked in the microwave instead of baking in the oven.
